The Marine Protected Area of Sinis Peninsula and Mal di Ventre Island has held a cycle of 4 “Scientific aperitifs” (workshops). These events, organized within the framework of the S&T MED Project throughout the month of August 2015, were meant to involve local population, SMEs and tourists and focused on sharing best practices in environmental monitoring. Musical entertainment and local product tasting were also offered during the discussion.
The 6th Meeting of the S&T MED Steering Group was held in the stunning location of the Sinis Peninsula at the heart of the Marine Protected Area on 10th and 11th of September.
The bulk of the discussion among Project’s Partners for this sixth meeting focused on the S&T’s DMO model and its pilot application in the three target areas of the Project: Sinis, Mahdia and Aqaba. During the meeting, near future activities were also discussed, in particular participation of S&T MED to the World Travel Market in London (2nd to 5th November 2015) and the promotional video of the Project. Shootings are about to start in the three locations of the Project by the renowned Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC), leading Italian Institution in the field of cinematography.
Project Partners had also the opportunity to visit the museum of Cabras that hosts the amazing statues known as Mont’e Prama Giants that dates back to the 9th and the 8th century BC.
The fifth Steering Group for the S&T MED Project has taken place in Mahdia last 16th and 17th of April. During the meeting, Partners could exchange news and updates on advancements in the implementation of the Project’s Work Packages, and take important decisions as for the Project’s future activities, including the set up of a communication group. The meeting was also a great occasion for a field trip to the old town of Mahdia and its beauties, its old cemetery, the port, the stunning El-Jem Amphitheatre – UNESCO World Heritage Site – and its mosaics.
The S&T Med team participated in the capitalization event organised by the Joint Managing Authority of the ENPI CBC MED on March 3rd.
MIBACT Secretary General, Archt. Recchia, led the delegation and introduced the Project, highlighting its strategic value and potentials. Project Partners were also present: MPA “Penisola del Sinis – Isola di Mal di Ventre”; Stazione Zoologica “Anton Dohrn” and University for foreigners “Dante Alighieri”.
The event represented an opportunity for the Project to shortly introduce its methodology and objectives, exchange experiences, and networking with projects operating in the same sector.
Two presentations were also made available to other projects through the Programme online sharing platform:
- an insight in the Destination Management Organization methodology of the Project and its application in the Sinis context;
- an overview of the environmental monitoring system based on data collected by a system of buoys and its potential for tourism.
